A container is a piece of furniture found inside and sometimes outside the buildings of Muldraugh's unnamed suburb. The key difference between a container and other furniture pieces like chairs, tables and so forth, is the ability to store items inside it. This lightens your load and makes scouting for more items easier. If you put more than one of the same item inside the container, it will automatically stack with the other in one slot. This makes it able to store quite a lot of items inside the 6 slot grid all containers have at the moment.
Presently, containers may hold more than 6 types of goods, but only 6 are visible inside the container's dialogue box. If there are more than 6 object types in a container, another object will become viewable once one of the original 6 seen is taken.
The cash register is found on countertops in restaurants and stores. It currently does not have any lootable items inside when it is generated in the world but can be used as a container to store items in.
Cupboards are found in certain shops and in most, if not all of the houses in the suburb. They have 6 slots which can all be occupied by a large range of objects, such as food, general items and in rare occasions weapons. In some buildings (such as the generic two story house in the suburbs) these cupboards can also be found in the bathroom.
Medicine cabinets are found exclusively in bathrooms. They are currently the only source of painkillers, beta blockers, anti-depressants and sleeping tablets. A cabinet can then be used to store more items in after looted.
Ovens are only found in house or restaurant kitchens throughout the suburb. They are currently used to cook food by placing the cookable item(s) inside one of the slots and then pressing the "on" button. The occupied slot's background has a smooth transition from a slightly, to clearly visible red that indicates the cooking process and it's rough progress. Recipes, such as soup, can be crafted using the inventory and also cooked in this way. Most foods look different when they're done cooking and substantially reduce your hunger when compared to the uncooked versions. But cooking a food for too long will burn the food and will make it less filling and can make the consumer ill.
Note - Don't forget to turn the oven off when you are done cooking! Failing to do so will often start a fire that causes massive damage, leaving your house basically destroyed (for the moment at least).
Similar to Ovens, they are found in houses and restaurant kitchens. It can be used to cook Popcorn and tv dinners.
Like the oven, the refrigerator is only found in house and restaurant kitchens. They usually contain normal and spoilable foods like steaks, apples, carrots and chicken as well as some water. The refrigerator slows down the spoiling process of food when you place food in the refrigerator. However, once the power goes out, the refrigerator will no longer preserve the food.
Vending machines can be found inside and outside some buildings, but they are mainly found inside restaurants or around restaurants. There are two machines that differ in appearance and height. One has a glass window and a purple stripe, this machine contains crisps. The other has a fruit picture on an orange background, this machine contains pop.
The wardrobe is a large wooden container which is found in bedrooms. A wardrobe consists of two parts which both have 6 slots. These slots usually contain bed sheets, belts, clothing and on rare occasions certain weapons. One of the 2 wardrobe parts in the tutorial room has a pillow inside it which can be used to kill your wife, Kate.
Wooden crates are found in the warehouse as well as in some locations along the left border of Muldraugh. They are the only source of petrol, and one of the rare sources of wood planks. These are the only containers that can be crafted by the player, making good use in makeshift bases or when not enough containers are present.
Surprisingly, trash bins are currently one of the most valuable containers to find in the game world. The humble trash bin is typically found in the garages of houses in the suburbs or near the backs of buildings in the commercial district. As of the current test version (.2O), shift clicking will allow the player's avatar to move the trash bin. Control-clicking will change orientation. Wise use of these mobile containers allows a player to clean out buildings of useful materials without becoming overloaded.
